Livros de cantochão da Sé de Coimbra na reforma pós-tridentina: Notas sobre o contexto de realização de um fundo litúrgico-musical quase desconhecido
Abstract
At the beginning of the seventeenth century, after a long process, the Chapter of the Cathedral of Coimbra began an important publishing initiative: new chant books for the Cathedral which would be (at least as intended in the initial project) in accordance with the ritual requirements of the Council of Trent. Up to the present it has been possible to identify twenty-one volumes, practically to the academic community. The present paper aims to make this archive better known. Though, on the one hand, these choir books, on account of their number, represent a rather important testimony to the practice of late plainchant in Portugal, namely the reformist tendencies associated with the humanist movement, on the other, they preserve specific elements of the liturgical and musical repertoire which deserve further research.
