Abstract

The author explains his method of transcribing polyphonic music from the late 15th and 16th centuries by means of a rhythmical-metrical interpretation, making extensive use of examples of vernacular song taken from the Cancionero musical de Palacio. He also discusses conventional transcription methods and the way they determine performance, obscuring the repertory. This method of renotation, based on a considered analysis of each piece, and on the historical and theoretical data at our disposal today, employs an irregular system of barring, the purpose of which is to clarify the polyrhythmical and multimetrical structure of Renaissance polyphony, as well as to highlight its form and musical syntax.
