Abstract

Jorge Croner de Vasconcelos often chose dual realizations for his songs (voice and piano, then arranged for voice and instrumental ensemble). Only in the case of ‘Comigo me desavim’ (Sá de Miranda’s text) did he leave us with three realizations - two for voice and quartet, and one for voice and piano. In order to establish their chronology and discern their compositional relationships, a consideration of what we know about JCV’s thought process, via his teachings on composition at the Conservatório Nacional, is especially rewarding.
