Villa-Lobos e sua brasilidade: Uma abordagem a partir da teoria das marcações (markedness) de Hatten

This article aims to investigate aspects of representation of national elements in Villa-Lobos’s music; some concepts developed by Brazilian musicologists Renato Almeida and Mário de Andrade in the first half of twentieth century are taken together with Robert Hatten’s theory of musical signification. A classification of Brazilian musical expressive genres is proposed from these sources.
