Abstract

The author attempts a reconstruction of Domenico Scarlatti's career between 1719 and 1729, based on the examination of the known sources and revealing new documents of bio-bibliographical relevance. The article focuses on the aspects relating to the sojourns of the composer in Lisbon, his travels between 1723 and 1725 - including two hitherto unknown visits to Paris – the nature of his functions and the dimension of his output for the court of João V, proposing a new view of the romanization of the Portuguese musical life around 1720, with its centre in the Patriarchal Church. A list of Domenico Scarlatti's Portuguese works is given in appendix.
